Romania in the US
Ambassador of Romania in the US, Andrei Muraru, met with Nadia Comaneci, the greatest gymnast in Romania’s history. In 1989, Nadia fled Romania and has been living in the US ever since. Ambassador Andrei Muraru talks about his meeting with Nadia in a message he posted on Facebook on June 1, 2024.
“To reward talent and hard work is an effort worth joining – that’s why when invited by Nadia Comaneci to the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame, I did not hesitate. This event was created to recognize the achievements of the greatest gymnastics legends, and the list of past awardees includes two Romanian legends: Nadia Comaneci and Catalina Ponor.
It was an opportunity to reconnect with Nadia and her husband Bart, a significant name in gymnastics, and to meet again with Mayor David Holt from Oklahoma City,” the message posted by Ambassador Muraru on the internet mentions. The International Gymnastics Hall of Fame is located in Oklahoma City.
In this ranking, the first Romanian included was Nadia Comaneci. Following Nadia, Romania saw the inclusion of, among others, Ecaterina Szabo, Catalina Ponor, and Andreea Raducan.
